Over the years, requirements earth sciences analytics resulted in  a range of laboratories at the GSI. These include sedimentology (separations mechanical), wet chemistry of  rock samples,  clean labs for separating isotopes, as well as  a wide range of measuring instruments based on Inductively Coupled Plasma mass spectrometry, X- ray, ion chromatography, optical and electronic microscopy.

Dating of rock samples and water is essential for all Earth sciences. The laboratories at the GSI include U-Th, U-Pb and Luminescence dating.

The GSI develops and maintains a collection of laboratories unique in the country and currently it is a leading research center. The analytical services are also used in collaboration with research, industry and environmental monitoring.
