Emeritus, Senior researcher
In charge of the Micropaleontology lab

Research interests:

  • Benthic foraminifera as tracers for bottom waterconditions  in shallow and deep water.
  • Quaternary Mediterranean  and Red Sea paleoceanography.
  • Reconstructing upwelling paleo-environments of the southern Tethys during the Upper Cretaceous.
  • Living and fossil records of brackish foraminifera.

Main projects and grants:

  • Benthic foraminifera as indicator of seafloor conditions in the deep sea off the Israeli coast and in  rocky reefs of northern  Israel (Ministry of Infrastructure).
  • The late Quaternary paleohydrology of Lake Kinneret: Brine - freshwater interaction (BSF).
  • Benthic foraminifera as indicators for submarine mass flow events in the northern Gulf of Elat.
  • Foraminifera as a model system for thermal stress (BMBF).
  • Incorporating a new method for obtaining more long-tern sea level records for the Israeli coast )MOST(.
  • Characterization of oil shales in the Negev and Shefela, Israel (Ministry of Infrastructure).
